We’re incredibly fortunate people. Most people dream of traveling to French Polynesia and we’re still pinching ourselves that we actually did it. As the trip draws to a close (we’re now docked back in Papeete on the island of Tahiti ready to disembark tomorrow morning), we realize what an amazing adventure this was and we’re so glad we did it.
Our last day was spent on the island of Moorea. Think of all the painted wall murals you’ve seen in Polynesian restaurants, the vintage airline advertisements for the islands here, the stage backdrops in the movie or stage productions of South Pacific, or any other image you can conjure up of an idyllic Polynesia paradise and you’re vision won’t be far off from what is reality on the island of Moorea. This is one of those places that we really are having a hard time believing actually exists. It is that amazing.
After rain in Bora Bora, we hoped for the best with the weather in Moorea, which is very close by to Bora Bora. We were in luck. As we arrived early in the morning, we opened our drapes to see blue skies dotted with puffy white clouds and a lush, green, mountainous island approaching.
The ship set its anchor in a bay that was too perfect for words. We tendered in and, at the suggestion of some friends we’ve made onboard, rented scooters to explore the island. What a blast! The photos below tell the story of the amazing beauty we experienced on this island. We only wished that we could have stayed here longer, but we know it is a place that neither of us will ever forget.
So now we’re back on the “main island” of Tahiti and will leave the ship at 8AM tomorrow to take a cab to the Sheraton here for the day before our overnight flight back to LAX We’ll leave Tahiti, probably to never return, but with some once-in-a-lifetime memories. Thanks for keeping up with us on our adventures.
