Yesterday it was hot and humid. Overnight, the winds picked up and the clouds rolled in. By the time we were up in the morning, it was raining steadily and the temperature had dropped about 30-degrees (F) from yesterday. That didn’t detour us, though, from going out to explore a different area of the city we hadn’t visited yet. We hopped on the subway a couple blocks from the apartment and headed towards San Telmo.

Buenos Aires' Subte (subway) service is frequent and inexpensive at just 1.4 pesos per trip (about 35 cents).

San Telmo is the oldest neighborhood in Buenos Aires. We had read that it was a district with art galleries and we’ve hoped to find something to take home and commemorate the trip. It definitely is a well-preserved area of the city and has many buildings from its colonial past. Today’s rain had the area fairly deserted, but we still had a fun time walking around, taking it all in.

It felt a bit like Europe ... Northern Europe, with the cool temps and rain.

There were some nice clothing stores along Defensa, a street in San Telmo. We picked up a couple bargains there.

Many of the San Telmo stores are antique stores. This shot is typical of many of the stores lining Defensa.

Not many shoppers out today in San Telmo

We had a nice lunch in the area and browsed a few galleries. Of course, we were drawn to pieces we decided we couldn’t afford and pieces we don’t have room to display. It was fun looking, nonethless.

We hopped back on the Subte and headed back to the Recoleta area, the district we visited the first day we were here. We stumbled upon a big sign over a store calling to one of us …

We had to check it out.

It turns out that “Clint” is a brand of men’s clothing here in Argentina. We had to pick up at least one item, especially since it seemed made for Clint!

Pretty nice to come to town and have clothes waiting for you.

The clerk set him up with plenty of Clint paraphernalia.

One final shot

Tonight was to be dinner at a fondue restaurant a few blocks away. After reading some reviews, we opted against that, got some take-out, and enjoyed a night in, watching Project Runway Latin America.
