The two little eggs in the hummingbird nest in our yard hatched a few weeks ago.

Here’s a picture of the two snuggled up in their nest.

After about three weeks in the nest, they were ready to fly. One took to the sky yesterday. The mother bird watched her very closely and took her around for some landing practice on the orange tree. It was cute … she wasn’t the most steady but did seem to be getting better with practice. Later, she took her out to the trumpet vine and cape honeysuckle for some feeding practice. Baby brother stayed back in the nest.

But today, both are our flying around and the mother bird was quite interested in what I was doing out there with a camera … she was within inches of my face, chirping the whole time. She’s quite social.

Here are some photos from today’s flying/landing exercises.
