Last night we departed Papeete just before dinner and had a really scenic sail out of the harbor with festive music and activities up on the pool deck.

We found our assigned table at dinner … a table for eight. Three other couples (straight) are at our table and we were able to get to know each of them a bit. Dinner was good … we each had a puff pastry with a seafood filling and lobster sauce and, of course, the deserts are always delicious. After dinner, we attended the nightly show, which on this particular evening was a magic/comedy routine … not bad. We were exhausted from the long flight and late night the day before and went to bed right after that.

We awoke early on Friday to get ready to explore Huahine (said who-a-hee-nee). We had a tour scheduled for this port of call and we needed to take a tender from the ship to the island. Huahine is a lush island that is pretty untouched. Huahine is actually made up of two islands … Huahini Nui (“Big Huahine”) and Huahini Iti (“Little Huahine”). The islands have several maraes, or sacred sites, which is what we set out to explore on our tour.

The tour took us to some of the ancient maraes and burial sites on Huahini Nui where we learned about the history of the area but also got to take in some great local sights.

In the afternoon, we came back to the ship and relaxed on deck a bit before we departed at about 4pm. We’re now on our way to Rangiroa. The journey to get there includes a full day at sea tomorrow (Saturday).

Here are some photos from our day on Huahine …
