Growing up in Eastern Washington, I guess I always thought that citrus came from the grocery store. The concept of picking an orange off of the tree was so foreign to me until I went to Florida one year and saw orange trees for the first time. Still, it seemed so natural for apples to grow on trees in your yard, but citrus?!? That would just be too amazing.

Well, I still kind of have an I-can’t-believe-it feeling each time I look out and see our grapefruit and orange trees loaded with fruit. Our little lemon tree is growing and has put forth one lemon this year. Our lime has lots of nice looking leaves … that’s it. This is the time of year when the citrus is ripening. The grapefruit have made great breakfasts and the juice from the oranges is beyond words delicious.

I was out today picking an orange to juice, snapped this pic, and then promptly dropped my phone in the gravel scratching-up the screen. 🙁
